If you have some old faux pumpkins that need some love this is the perfect project for them. This gives you an easy and affordable way to update them. I ended up buying some new ones at Michael’s for half off. They weren’t the cheapest, but I loved their unique look! You can use any shape or color that you want!
How to: DIY Terracotta Pumpkin
Y’all, I am telling you, this is one of the easiest projects!
There are some terracotta color paints you could probably find, but I didn’t have much luck at my local Walmart. I grabbed 2 colors of orange, white, and brown craft paints and mixed them to my desired color. I added some baking soda to the mixture. This adds some grittiness to the pumpkin once it is dry.
I found that starting at the bottom was the easiest. After you finish painting the bottom, immediately sprinkle some flour on the paint. Then, I used my hands to pat the flour into the paint so it would stick. Then, I let that section dry before moving on.
I went heavier on the flour. That way, I could come back and distress them.
Once the entire pumpkin is painted and you have dusted the flour, let everything dry for about 15-20 minutes.
After you had let it dry for 15-20 minutes, I took a wet paper towel and distressed the pumpkin by wiping off some of the flour in parts.
I mimicked the look of an antique terracotta pot.
Let everything dry, and you are done!
See how easy this DIY was?! You probably even have most of these supplies already, as well!
