How to Decorate Your Master Bedroom for Christmas
Some people ask me, “why decorate your bedroom for Christmas?” and to that I ask them “well, why not?”
Did you know that on average we spend 35% of our daily time in our bedrooms? Asleep or not – they deserve to be decorated, too!
Christmas is such a magical time of year and I want to soak it all in. Plus, with the time changing and it getting dark so early now, having some extra little twinkle lights in the corner sure helps to lessen that dreary feeling. No, seriously, add twinkle lights everywhere you can. Plug in lights, battery operated fairy lights – whatever you have on hand. Get them out and put them EVERYWHERE. There’s a hidden tip for ya!
I’ve got 3 simple tips and tricks to share with you about decorating your master bedroom for Christmas! Cozy up, grab your favorite hot drink – or cold! – and let’s dive into these 3 tips!
We all know the typical, put a tree in your room and decorate it, concept. But let’s take things a little bit further. Here are 3 ideas that maybe you didn’t think to do! These are all super simple little tricks that I think make a huge difference. Plus, they all just add to that cozy feeling that we all crave this time of year.
I’ve been reading a lot lately that winter is a time of healing. Aside from the Christmas rush that the world sends us in, winter time is truly supposed to be a time of rest. We crave nourishing meals, slowing down, soft lights everywhere. Give yourself some rest and healing by creating a safe haven in your bedroom that has a beautiful cozy Christmas feeling.
Flannel Christmas Bedding
Oh my goodness. You have got to get some flannel sheets! We finally made the swap in our room this year and I have missed that warmth when you climb into bed at night, or even nap time!
Have you ever noticed how your normal sheets have that cool feeling to them? Well, that’s by design. I don’t know about you but the last thing I want to do at night is get in a cold bed this time of year! Flannel sheets keep it just right!
I got these red ticking stripe sheets from Target and they are amazing. My little boys call them the candy cane sheets and they are asking for some for their room. Hmm, Santa might have to get them!
Switching out your bedding is something that makes me excited to go snuggle up in bed and rest and relax and I know I can’t be the only one! Even if you don’t like the feeling of flannel, just switching your usual set for something in a warm red or green color will really help bring that Christmas cozy feeling to your room.
Christmas Artwork
Did you know that you can purchase downloadable art off Etsy? You can!
Y’all, I am screaming from the rooftops how much I love this. For just a few dollars you can purchase high quality digital downloads that you can have printed off.
There are so many gorgeous options out there. You can even grab a vintage piece. Each one that I’ve purchased has such detail in it. They truly look like oil paintings. If that’s not your style, there’s even typography on there. Those would look super cute, too!
If you want an easy way to just cover up a wooden sign that you already have with a new art print, just have the piece printed to the inside dimension of your wooden sign and then use double sided tape to attach it. Then when the season is over or you’re just tired of it – pull the print off and store for another time.
If you have an actual frame you can use, even better!
I may or may not be planning to completely redo all of the art in our home. Who knows!
Cozy Layers
I feel like this may be a no brainer, but maybe not. On top of your flannel bedding add in some cozy throw blankets and warm sweaters. Here me out on the sweater…
I’ve got a brand new cardigan that my Mom actually picked up for me before Thanksgiving and it’s this cozy long duster type cardigan. Well I think I’ve worn it more days that not lately. I keep it on my wingback chair in my room so it’s easily accessible to throw on when I get cold and it looks super cute just laying there, too!
Keeping a throw blanket around just adds in such a cozy feeling. It’s welcoming and somehow has a magnetic force to make you just want to snuggle up and read a book in bed or a chair.
I love this faux fur one I got a few years ago, but you can find them pretty much anywhere.
