How to Keep Your Towels Bright and Fluffy!
Hi friend! I’m excited to share with you how to keep your towels bright and fluffy. I am a firm believer in having white linens because they are SO much easier to maintain. Easier than you think. Even with having a house full of boys which leads to a lot of extra dirt – my towels stay bright white!
For years I had these tan towels and I felt like I could never get them clean clean.
Since switching to white towels I have learned the best tips and tricks to keep them bright and fluffy. Keep reading to learn how!
How to Keep Your Towels Bright and Fluffy
First things first, you are going to want to purchase some decent quality white towels, below are some of my recommendations!
- Casaluna Modal Bath Towel
- Threshold Quick Dry Ribbed Bath Towel
- Threshold Spa Bath Towel
- Casaluna Waffle Bath Towel
Should you decide to purchase from these links I may receive a small commission. I would never recommend products I would not personally used. This is at no extra cost to you but it helps me out so much!
Tip 1: Don’t Overfill Washer
This is probably one of the biggest reasons why your towels are not getting clean. If you have a washing machine with with an agitator believe it or not you are one of the lucky ones! I know these modern machines are beautiful but they just don’t seem to get things as clean as they used to.
To ensure you’re getting everything as clean as it can be don’t overfill the washer with towels and don’t overfill the detergent drawer.
Tip 2: Don’t Be Afraid of Bleach
I will admit – I am not afraid to use some bleach in every load. This just gets rid of any extra strong stain that your detergent can’t get out.
Tip 3: Do a Vinegar Wash Every 10 Washes
Vinegar is the secret ingredient to every homemade power cleaning recipe I feel like. To do a vinegar wash all you need to do is fill the detergent compartment with vinegar and wash on hot. The vinegar will break down any residue leftover in your towels. Don’t worry – you won’t smell a thing once they’re dry!
Tip 4: Always Use the Extra Rinse Option
I always add an extra rinse to my cycles and I really feel like it helps get all of the soap really rinsed out. Leftover soap will actually make your towels dingy.
Tip 5: Don’t Use Fabric Softener
You can think of Fabric Softener as an item with silicone. It puts a barrier on your towels that will lead them to not getting completely clean or being able to absorb as much water as possible.
Tip 6: Don’t Use Dryer Sheets
Just like the fabric softener, the ingredients in dryer sheets leave a residue on your towels. This will prevent them from soaking up as much water as they can, too.
A great alternative to dryer sheets is wool dryer balls. I use these occasionally and add a drop or 2 of lemon essential oil to them to give my towels a fresh scent!
Tip 7: Don’t Over Dry Towels
While you don’t want to under dry your towels and put them away when they can develop mold and mildew you also don’t want to over dry them. This helps help them in pristine condition. No one wants a burnt smelling towel!
Tip 8: Replace When Needed
As much as we don’t want to face the fact that we will eventually reach the end of our towels lives, they do need to be replaced. The frequency depends on how you take care of them just like with anything. If you utilize these tips I can almost guarantee you that your towels can last at least 5 years if not more!
If you want to try reviving some old towels look into stripping them. I have had lots of success with stripping our clothes and linens in the past and it definitely gives them a fresh boost!
