Once the base cabinets were built, it was time to Once the base cabinets were built, it was time to add the face frame and our DIY countertop!

We milled down poplar stock to 1.5” and cut that to length. Robby built the face frame with wood glue and pocket hole screws. We added a decorate foot to the face frame to give the cabinets a little extra charm. We attached the face frame to the cabinets using wood glue and a brad nailer.

Then we started on our DIY countertop. We laminate 2 pieces of 3/4” MDF boards with LOTS of wood glue and clamps. Let those set for at least 24 hours, then we used a flush trim bit on the router to make sure they were perfectly lined up and looked like one single piece. We added a chamfer to the top and sanded the MDF well.

Then we located the studs in the wall and attached the cabinet bases to the wall with 3” construction screws. Then we shimmed the countertop to make sure it was level and once we were happy, we attached the countertop to the cabinet underneath through the top board with more construction screws!

Now it’s time to work on the bench that sits underneath the window. It’s looking amazing so far 😍

The worst part about getting sick? Everything feel The worst part about getting sick? Everything feeling blah and stale! I came down with some weird Christmas funk and woke up this morning feeling much better 🙌🏻 buttttt…. The whole house feels stale. So I’m starting in the kitchen with this simmer pot recipe! Measure with your heart, I’m just sharing what I’m adding to mine today.
Reset Simmer Pot Recipe:
2 lemons, sliced
3 slices of fresh ginger
2 sprigs of rosemary
1 tsp vanilla paste
1/2 tbsp whole peppercorns

Add all ingredients to a pot with water. Bring to a boil, and reduce to a simmer. Add water as needed and you can use this for up to 3 days before I would switch out for fresh ingredients!

An easy, nontoxic way to freshen up your home with ingredients you probably already have on hand!

Day Four! Let’s batch some homemade Irish Cream. This recipe has become a tradition in our home and we like to sip on it over ice or even get a little crazy and put a splash in our coffees.

Recipe:
1 cup Heavy cream
1 can sweetened condensed milk
3 tablespoons chocolate syrup
1 teaspoon instant coffee
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (I use vanilla paste)
10 oz Whiskey of choice

Add ingredients to a large blender and blend until combined. Store in an airtight container. I would say it lasts for about a week!

Day Three! Let’s make a yummy Pear Noel! I created this by trying to find a way to make my favorite @greygoose La Poire (Pear) Vodka more seasonal for winter. It’s a warm and bright cocktail that’s perfect for enjoying by the tree.

Recipe:
2 oz La Poire Vodka
2 oz Apple Cider
1 oz Amaretto
1 oz Lemon Juice

Rim your cocktail glass with simple syrup and pumpkin pie spice. Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour into your glass and garnish with a star anise or fresh pear slice.
